The orchestra of the Raikes Consort opens the new academic year's Cambridge University Lunchtime Concert Series (CULCS) held in West Road Concert Hall each Tuesday. The concert is a showcase of several consort members, including BBC Young Musician finalist Sophie Westbrooke in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 and a new concerto for four recorders and strings by director Jamie Conway. Sophie is joined by Rebecca Doherty and Naomi Warburton for the Bach, while Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 will be played by Becky Kershaw, Leora Cohen and Jamie Conway.

The consort will be travelling overseas for the first time to give a series of concerts and to sing the liturgy in St Mark's English Church in Florence, Italy. Led by guest conductor and Robinson College student Tom Moy, assisted by Jamie Conway and accompanied by St John's College Organ Scholar James Anderson-Besant, the choir of the consort will give two contrasting performances as well as aiding the worship in the church on Sunday morning. Raikes Consort recorder player and BBC Young Musician finalist Sophie Westbrooke joins the choir on tour to give a recital of recorder music old and new. Sophie will be accompanied by Jamie Conway.

Partner ensemble East London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Jamie Conway join forces with young conductor and trumpeter of the National Youth Orchestra Zoë Kundu and her ensemble Wyatt Sinfonia for a mixed programme in London, featuring new music by Royal Academy of Music graduate and British Composer Award winning Robin Haigh for solo clarinet, harp and strings (with Samuel Huston, clarinet), rare music by female Croatian composer Dora Pejačević, and Sibelius' great Violin Concerto with international award-winning Royal College of Music student, Charles Westhoff.

The orchestra of the consort will accompany Cambridge University Opera Society's Michaelmas Show in Emmanuel College Chapel in November. Conducted by Jamie Conway, the cast will be drawn from the student body and the production will be fully staged and designed by a student crew. Don't miss out on these three performances of a rarely heard gem from Rossini.

The first performance

The Raikes Consort came together for the first time in Robinson College at the University of Cambridge after the Easter vacation in 2018 to perform Handel's formidable Dixit Dominus. The concert also featured St John's College organ scholar James Anderson-Besant in Bach's First Harpsichord Concerto as well as a new work for choir and baroque ensemble, De Profundis, by artistic director Jamie Conway.
